$15 000 is headed west to support farming communities
in western Queensland.
Nerang Rotarians Geoff and Michael met up with Rotarian Phillip Charles, who is a member of the Rotary Club of Toowoomba East, a Past District Governor of Region 9630 and the current Chairperson of the Rotary Committee charged with the disbursement of all drought aid funds raised and ensuring they go to those who really need it.
In December, 2018 the Rotary Club of Nerang hosted a luncheon at the Nerang RSL Club in aid of the ongoing Drought Relief for our farmers who are suffering from the ongoing unseasonal conditions.

Firstly, the Rotary Club of Nerang would like to thank you sincerely for the support you offered for this fund raising venture. I am sure you would agree that the venue and luncheon were excellent and that the guest speaker, Mr George Negus, provided much entertainment and information throughout his presentation.

In all, the amount of fifteen thousand dollars ($15,000) was raised. You, as a sponsor who made this event possible, should be very proud that this great outcome was achieved. Without your support, this would not have been possible.

In  January, 2019 several members of our Rotary Club travelled to Toowoomba to meet with Phillip Charles, who is a member of the Rotary Club of Toowoomba East, a Past District Governor of Region 9630 and the current Chairperson of the Rotary Committee charged with the disbursement of all drought aid funds raised and ensuring they go to those who really need it.

The areas identified as being most in need in Queensland are the Shires containing Augathella, Cunnamulla, Charleville and Barcaldine. These communities are desperately in need of assistance and the funds will be welcomed by the individuals and their families.

Regarding the funds raised, Phillip explained that the money is being given out as gift cards, each valued at $1000. These can be redeemed at specific businesses in the South West Queensland area for purchasing foodstuff for the families, paying basic bills and for other expenses in their daily lives. It is estimated that for every dollar spent locally, the flow on benefit to those townships is tripled as it goes toward jobs, business sustainability and helping to keep those communities survive this difficult time .

Again, the Rotary Club of Nerang thanks you for your generous sponsorship in this endeavour. It is most pleasing that the efforts put in by our member Mehmet Tevli and his team has reaped such a positive outcome.
