Not long after the Club's Charter in 1975 the Club joined with other service clubs in Nerang to salvage, site and restore a paddle steamer "The Maid of Sker" in Nerang. Rotarian Col Sinclair co-ordinated the restoration programme which involved moving the 25.6 meter paddle steamer built in 1885 from the Southport Spit to Nerang, restoring the hull, adding timber hutches, fabricating and installing paddle wheels, a derrick, boiler, funnel and deck house structure.
